- Experience your own personal and unique fishing
adventure at Los Ulmos Fly-Fishing Lodge! Los Ulmos, one
of southern Chile’s best-kept secrets, has been offering
unforgettable fly-fishing vacations in one of the most
secluded wilderness landscapes in the Southern
Hemisphere for over a decade.
Exquisite
world-class cuisine, traditional Chilean hospitality and
some of the most exciting sport-fishing in the world
awaits you at Los Ulmos Lodge. The lodge is located on
one of the country’s best salmon/trout rivers: the
Petrohué. Tucked between two national parks, the view to
the west is the spectacular snow capped cone of the
dormant Osorno volcano and to the east, the sheer
granite walls of the majestic Andes. This rugged and
isolated terrain provides exclusive access to some of
the most pristine river, stream and lake fishing in all
of South America.
Ricardo Gómez, owner and head guide, has been
fishing in Chile for over 40 years and has rightly
earned his nickname:
“el
viejo del río” (old man of the river).
The fishing season runs from November through the
first week in May, but November and December offer the
best trout fishing on the Petrohué. Guests at Los Ulmos
regularly catch 10 to 20 two-five pound fish per day!
Wet flies (brown and green patterns) are generally
recommended, but fall hatches provide excellent dry fly
opportunities. During the height of summer (February),
Chinook salmon enter the estuary, just
three miles from the lodge and by March the river is
teeming with 20- to 40-pounders. As the Chinook spawn
they make room for Steelhead, Sea-run brown trout, and
Coho salmon. Catch and release is encouraged! All guides
are local seasoned fishermen who are committed to their
guests, from die-hard veterans to beginners, all enjoy
the richest fishing experience possible. Equipment such
as Zodiacs, drift-boats and personal floatation devices
ensure access to the very best fishing holes. All rods,
reels, tackle and fishing instruction are included in
package prices.

Los Ulmos Lodge is made up of private cottages
nestled inside a lush native botanical garden. Each
cottage includes a wood stove, comfortable rooms and
a fully-equipped kitchen. Ricardo’s
wife, Ruth, personally oversees the restaurant which
offers an outstanding menu including organic garden
herbs and vegetables as well as Chile’s
world-renowned seafood. Guests of family-owned and
operated Los Ulmos Lodge enjoy the traditional
Chilean hospitality and personal service not found
at larger, commercialized lodges.
Los Ulmos specializes all-inclusive guided
fishing excursions, but guests are encouraged to
create their own personal experience by taking
advantage of any combination of the services offered:
lodging, meals, transportation and/or guides. The
spectacular landscape surrounding the lodge also
provides hiking and horseback riding opportunities
and guests have access to riverside hot springs
within walking distance. Group discounts are
available.
Although Los Ulmos Lodge is secluded and
pristine, getting there is easy. From Santiago’s
international airport guests take a short flight to
Puerto Montt and then a scenic, two-hour shuttle
ride to Los Ulmos.
Ricardo and Ruth Gómez personally attend to all
aspects of the lodge and their goal is to create a
fishing experience that their guests will never
forget. We’re
awaiting your arrival!
